Workplace Communication Training for Employees and Leaders

Better Communication Starts with Better Conversations

Many workplace issues do not begin as major problems. They begin with a conversation that did not go well.

The wrong tone. Not really listening. Reacting too quickly. Feedback that feels more like criticism. A conversation that leaves someone feeling unheard or defensive.

Through our work with organizations, we have seen firsthand how seemingly small communication issues, left unresolved, can lead to misunderstandings, hurt feelings, conflict and, in some cases, formal workplace concerns.

That is why we created two workplace communication training programs: Communicate Like a Coach for supervisors and managers and Communicate with TLC for employees.

Different roles require different communication skills, but everyone has a role in creating better conversations.

Two Programs. One Approach to Better Communication.

one for leaders, one for employees.

Communicate Like a Coach and Communicate with TLC can be offered separately or together as part of an organization-wide approach to strengthening communication.

Communicate Like a Coach

communication and coaching skills for supervisors and managers.

Good leadership is not simply about giving direction. It is also about knowing how to have conversations that help employees think, contribute, learn and move forward.

Communicate Like a Coach helps supervisors and managers take a more thoughtful approach to everyday communication, feedback and coaching conversations.

Leaders explore how to listen more effectively, ask better questions, communicate expectations clearly, provide constructive feedback and recognize how their own communication style can affect others.

The goal is not to turn every manager into a professional coach. It is to help leaders bring a coaching mindset to the conversations they are already having.

Because how something is communicated can be just as important as what is being communicated.

Communicate with TLC

workplace communication skills for employees.

Communicate with TLC gives employees an easy-to-remember framework they can use when communicating with colleagues, supervisors, clients and others.

Sometimes better communication starts with three simple things:

T

Tone

Consider not only what you are saying, but how you are saying it. Tone can influence how a message is received and where the conversation goes next.

L

Listen to Understand

Listening is more than waiting for your turn to speak. It means making an effort to understand what the other person is saying before responding.

C

Choose Your Response

We cannot always control what someone else says or does, but we can choose how we respond. Taking a moment to consider that response can change the direction of a conversation.

Communication Training That Fits Your Organization

flexible, practical and ready to roll out.

Communicate Like a Coach and Communicate with TLC can support employee development, leadership development, respectful workplace initiatives, sensitivity training, workplace restoration and broader organizational learning.

Both programs use relatable workplace situations to help learners connect communication concepts to conversations they may encounter in their own roles.

Programs can be delivered through the HR Pro Hosted LMS or provided as SCORM training files for implementation in your organization’s LMS.

Customization options are also available to align the training with your organization, policies, industry and learning objectives.

What We Believe

good communication can be learned.

We believe communication is a skill that can be learned, practised and strengthened.

Simply telling employees to “communicate better” is not enough. People need a framework they can remember and use when a conversation becomes difficult, emotions are involved or perspectives differ.

Leaders also need to recognize that how they communicate carries additional weight. Tone, feedback, questions and the way a message is delivered can influence whether someone engages in the conversation or becomes defensive.

Our programs give employees and leaders simple tools they can apply to the conversations they are already having every day.

Better Conversations Can Change Workplace Relationships

difficult conversations are part of working together.

Miscommunication will happen. People will disagree. Feedback can be difficult to hear. Emotions can influence how we respond.

The goal is not to eliminate difficult conversations.

It is to give people better tools for having them.

Because sometimes changing a workplace relationship starts with changing the conversation.
