Build Respectful, Professional and Psychologically Safer Workplaces
Many workplace harassment complaints do not begin with one dramatic incident. They develop over time through everyday interactions where professional boundaries become unclear, are tested or are repeatedly crossed.
A personal comment goes too far. A joke makes someone uncomfortable. A manager becomes overly familiar with an employee. Someone continues texting after work despite signals that the contact is unwelcome. Personal information is overshared. Physical space is not respected. What one person sees as friendly or harmless may feel intrusive, uncomfortable or inappropriate to someone else.
That is why we created our Workplace Boundaries Online Training Program.
We believe prevention starts much earlier.
Through our work conducting workplace investigations and providing training to organizations, we have seen firsthand how often boundary issues sit underneath conflict, damaged working relationships, and harassment complaints.
Often, the behaviour did not begin with an intention to harass. A boundary was crossed, the impact was not recognized, and the behaviour continued.
Employees and leaders need more than a list of prohibited behaviours. They need to understand where professional boundaries can become blurred, recognize how their behaviour may affect someone else, and know what to do when an interaction begins to feel uncomfortable.
Our Workplace Boundaries Online Training was created to give employees and leaders a framework for recognizing and maintaining healthy professional boundaries before situations develop into larger concerns.
We believe healthy boundaries are not about creating distance between people. They are about creating clarity, trust, and mutual respect.
People can be friendly, supportive and connected at work while still respecting professional limits.
We also believe that intent is only part of the equation. A person may believe they are being funny, friendly, or helpful while someone else experiences the behaviour very differently. Recognizing that difference is an important part of self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and respectful workplace conduct.
Learning to recognize and communicate boundaries gives employees the tools to address concerns earlier and make better choices when situations arise.
Participants will learn how to:
Professional boundaries can become blurred in many everyday situations. The program explores:
Realistic workplace scenarios help learners consider not only what happened, but also how the interaction may be experienced by the other person.
The program is designed for employees at all levels, including supervisors and managers, and is relevant to in-person, remote and hybrid workplaces.
It can be delivered as stand-alone professional boundaries training or incorporated into a broader respectful workplace, harassment prevention, or leadership development program.
Boundary issues can contribute to misunderstandings, hurt feelings, damaged relationships, conflict and harassment complaints.
Teaching employees only what constitutes harassment can mean starting the conversation too late.
Boundary training moves the conversation upstream. It helps employees recognize the everyday behaviours and interactions that can create discomfort before they develop into more serious concerns.
For supervisors and managers, understanding professional boundaries is particularly important because differences in authority can affect how comments, requests, invitations, and personal interactions are experienced by employees.
Our Workplace Boundaries Online Training is self-paced and designed for today’s workforce. The program includes realistic scenarios, interactive learning, knowledge checks and a certificate of completion.
Training can be delivered through the HR Pro Hosted LMS or provided as a SCORM training file for upload to your organization’s LMS or HRIS.
The program can also be customized to reflect organizational policies, terminology, industry-specific situations and jurisdictional requirements.
Most people do not come to work intending to cross professional boundaries
But knowing where that line is, recognizing when someone may be uncomfortable and understanding when to adjust our behaviour are skills that can be learned. Because preventing harassment often starts long before behaviour meets the definition of harassment. It starts with understanding and respecting boundaries.
